First Corinthians 13 is certainly one of the most popular chapters in the Bible. We all love to hear verses 4 through 7; "LOVE is patient and kind; LOVE is not jealous or boastful; it is not arrogant or rude. LOVE does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrong but rejoices in the right. LOVE bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things endures all things."
Paul did not mean these verses for weddings or for poetry, but rather for living every day life.
A friend of mine once suggested looking at this through a different lense. Everywhere the word LOVE appears, take out the word LOVE and substitute your name. "Bill Lutz is patient and kind (first of all, both my wife and my granddaughter would argue with that). This is hard for me to read. I don't measure up to well.
This is not intended to be a guilt trip. But rather a goal to move toward as we strive to grow in our spirituality. |
